Nike had recently embarked on a major project to create a 4th floor logistics area in its Oxford Street flagship store and re-organise and condense the back of house storage area from two floors into one.
Alser UK was asked to provide a solution for the proposed dismantling and relocation of all of the existing storage racking and the sourcing and installation of a significant amount of brand new storage equipment which was generically identical to the existing, and also to provide a specially manufactured clothes hanging system and large baskets to fit specifically in to the new equipment.
Alser UK Ltd worked closely with the Nike appointed Project Manager, David Reynolds, of Bloomsbury Project Management throughout the process.
Being a relatively old building and located in the centre of one of the major world cities, with the Alser work area being spread between floors 3 and 4 in what was essentially a building site, efficient delivery and installation was always going to be a challenge. The extra challenge we faced was that the only goods lift was not large enough to accept our racking equipment and it was about to go out of commission to be replaced, therefore we had to work closely with the client to come up with some very creative solutions! Luckily the client’s approach was very constructive, and together with our installation team’s ‘can do’ and flexible approach, we finally achieved our goals – in time and on budget.
Towards the conclusion of our work, we were asked to dismantle / demolish a large amount of the existing mobile racking on the 3rd floor and then dispose of the equipment.
“I worked closely with Peter and his colleagues at Alser who worked well within our program and were able to be flexible when changes in our program were necessary. Peter was always available to deal with any issues and help provide solutions. I will certainly recommend Alser UK Ltd for any future developments.”- Project Manager David Reynolds (FRICS FCMI MAPM)
